I've never meet a filmmaker or spoke to one for that matter who doesn't think they'll ever get anywhere, I don't believe you can go through all the shit and piss needed to make a film believing that you'll never get anywhere.
In ten years I'd like to be in a situation where I don't have to worry about raisng a budget for my next film, or the one after that.

I think people are getting the point:
Think of it this way, not many 30 year olds are head of major companies but many more are at the age of 50-60 then 30. Remember like all businesses your climbing a ladder. I am pretty shure that if you work on a film crew for 30 years (as most modern day directs did) you are bound to make contacts and friendships and thats how you get those higher jobs as directing.
In 10 years (I'm 16 now) I will have graduated from USC with a degree in film production and a minor in psychology, forensic science, french, creative writing, digital animation, and/or screenwriting. (I might double major, don't know yet) I will have made a feature film and secured at least one job on the set of a major picture (AD, PA, whatever). I will have published my one of my novels (they are entitled Jaded and Heterosexual), and written 3 feature length screenplays. That's not too much, is it? LoL

I made a similar pact to myself a while ago I have only completed a few of them. I have some what of a living as an actor. I am currently shooting a 35mm feature with an acclaimed Director. I had a small role in Swingers (by small I mean one line)And I have been in ACT plays have gotten my SAG card and Equity Card. AS for directing nothing huge yet, but time will come with money.

s'funny, but the screenplay I'm working on right now, well the idea, the germ, is nearly 10 years old. A lot of ideas sit on the shelf for a while before they are realised.
As a kid doing my 10 year plan I never considered how things like the economy can tangibly affect your aspirations. Assuming I get this screenplay into production (there's no reason why it shouldn't since it's based mostly on things within my means) then I think it will be better for having matured over 10 years. But then there's another part of me that thinks, shit, this thing has been reworked so much, what if it ends up with ewoks and kids shouting 'yippee' in it, or greedo shooting first?
Well, it's about a girl who is uncomfortable about being fucked by strangers. Greedo might shoot first but the carpet munching ewok should take the audience's mind off any children delivering their emotions poorly.
